I almost always paint on scrap wood. I like the texture of wood more than paper or canvas. I like how each board is different. My EXTREMELY HIGH-TECH process is to smear the paint around with my hands and carve into the wood with a cheap, bent-up potato peeler. I also use brushes, rags and my fingers.

Sometimes an image just magically pops into my head --it's like I'm seeing it on a TV screen --- and other times I discover something from just doodling around when I'm on the telephone or at my daughter's piano lesson or something.
